I love teaching my students about Community Helpers. There are so many to discuss. Teachers. Doctors. Police Officers. Firefighters. It’s one of my favorite units. How do I keep track of all the community helpers my students learn? There are so many community helper activities. Which community helper activity id right for me. Here’s your solution? Create a Community Helper journal!

WHAT IS A COMMUNITY HELPERS JOURNAL?

This journal includes 24 community helpers. Each page includes 3 lines for students write on. After learning about a community helpers, students can write down what they learned. Students write who the community helper is, where they work, and either how they dress, what the use, or what they drive.

PUTTING THE JOURNAL TOGETHER

It’s very simple to put together. After printing out the pages, a stapler or book fasteners are all that you need. Also, I can choose which community helpers to include so if you don’t teach students about “hairdressers”, you don’t have to include them.

2 TYPES OF COMUNITY HELPERS JOURNALS

Another great aspect is that there are 2 different types of sheets: a write-only journal or a cut-and-paste activity. You can print out journal sheets with pictures already on the page. Alternatively, you can print sheets with missing pictures where students can cut and paste the community helpers, their clothes, tools, vehicles, and place of work.
